RRC Offering 4116 Indian Railway Jobs for Apprentice Posts in 2025

If you have ever dreamed of wearing the badge of the Indian Railway Jobs, or at least stepping into that vast ecosystem, 2025 is ending on a very high note for you.

The Railway Recruitment Cell (RRC), Northern Railway, has just dropped a massive notification. We aren’t talking about a few hundred seats here. They have opened the gates for 4,116 Act Apprentice posts. Over four thousand opportunities are up for grabs across various divisions, workshops, and units in Northern India.

If you have your ITI certificate gathering dust or you’ve been refreshing job portals hoping for a government opportunity that doesn’t require a rigorous exam, this might be the break you’ve been waiting for. Let’s sit down and walk through everything you need to know about this recruitment drive.

Why This Recruitment Matters

In the world of Indian Railway Jobs, an apprenticeship is often the golden ticket. Why? Because completion of this training earns you the National Apprenticeship Certificate (NAC).

In future railway recruitments (specifically for Level-1 or Group D posts), railways often reserve a specific quota (usually 20%) for “Course Completed Act Apprentices” (CCAA). Plus, you get age relaxations in future drives.

Vacancy Breakdown

We are seeing massive requirements for:

  • Fitters
  • Electricians
  • Welders
  • Mechanic Diesel
  • Carpenters
  • Machinists

There are even niche spots for Data Entry Operators and Stenographers (about 16 posts), but the bulk is for the technical hands.

These latest government jobs in India are spread across locations like Ambala, Lucknow, Delhi, and Firozpur.

Who Is Eligible?

The rules are strict, but straightforward to understand. The applicants must fulfill two main conditions: Education and Age.

1. Educational Qualification

You cannot just walk in with an ITI certificate. You need a foundation.

  • 10th Pass: You must have passed your Matriculation (Class 10) with a minimum of 50% marks in aggregate. If you have 49.9%, unfortunately, you are out. The system is rigid on this.
  • ITI Certificate: You must have an ITI pass certificate in the appropriate trade (Fitter, Electrician, etc.) in an institute that is registered by NCVT or SCVT.

2. Age Limit (As of January 2025)

The railways want young blood for training.

  • General Candidates: The age must lie between 15 and 24 years old.
  • OBC Candidates: This will grant you a 3-year relaxation, i.e., you will be able to apply till the age of 27.
  • SC/ST Candidates: You have a 5-year relaxation, and that stretches to 29 years.
  • PwBD (Persons with Benchmark Disabilities): A solid 10-year relaxation is available, allowing application up to age 34.

The “No-Exam” Selection Process

Here is the best part. There is no written exam. There is no interview.

You don’t have to buy expensive guidebooks or spend sleepless nights cramming General Knowledge. The selection is based purely on Merit.

How is the merit calculated? The RRC uses a simple formula. They take your percentage marks from your 10th standard and your percentage marks from your ITI trade. They add them up and divide by two.

For example:

  • If you scored 80% in Class 10.
  • And 90% in ITI.
  • The final merit score will be (80 + 90) / 2 = 85%.

A final selection will be based on this average. If you make it to the cut-off, you get called for document verification. It is transparent and fair.

Important Dates to Mark

Do not be the person who submits an application on the last day when the server crashes. Make these dates on your calendar.

  • Application Start Date: November 25, 2025 (from 12:00 Noon).
  • Application End Date: December 24, 2025 (till 11:59 PM).

You have exactly one month. Get it done before the first week of December.

The Financials: Fees and Stipend

Application Fee

Applying won’t break the bank.

  • For General, OBC, and EWS candidates, the fee is Rs. 100.
  • For SC, ST, PwBD, and Women candidates, the fee is usually waived off (nil).

Stipend

This is a training job, so you do not receive a complete salary. You receive a monthly stipend to pay your bare necessities.

  • Year 1: Minimum Rs. 7,000 per month.
  • Based on trade/location: It can go up to Rs. 8,050 per month.

How to Apply: A Step-by-Step Guide

The process is entirely online.

  • Visit the Portal: Visit the official RRC Northern Railway website (rrcnr.org).
  • Register: Look for the link that says “Engagement of Act Apprentice”. Click on it. You will need to provide your active mobile number and email ID.
  • Submit the Form: Enter your personal details and educational marks. Attach documents, pay the fee, and click on submit.

A Final Word of Advice

It is easy to overlook apprenticeships because they aren’t “permanent government jobs in India” right out of the gate. But in today’s competitive landscape, having an “Indian Railways” stamp on your resume sets you apart. You get hands-on experience with heavy machinery and systems that you just can’t find in small private workshops.

Head over to the RRC website on November 25th and get your application in. Good luck, future railway technician!
