Am I Eligible? Checking the Criteria
The first and most crucial filter is that of eligibility. You must match the set conditions in terms of education and age in the specific cadres you are pursuing.
1. Educational Qualification
| Post Name / Cadre | Requirement |
| Lokrakshak Cadre (Constable/Sepoy) | Should have successfully cleared Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) / 12th under a recognized Board. |
| PSI Cadre (Sub Inspector/Jailer) | Must hold a Bachelor’s Degree from any university recognized by the Government. |
2. Age Limit
The two key categories have different age limits.
- Lokrakshak Cadre (Constable): 18 to 33 years.
- PSI Cadre (Sub-Inspector): 21 to 35 years.
- Relaxations: Old age relaxations into SC, ST, SEBC, EWS, and other new shifts are according to the government rules in Gujarat.
Application Fee
The general category has a nominal rate of application fee.
- General Category/Unreserved Candidates: ₹100/-
- Reserved Categories (SC/ST/SEBC/EWS) and Ex-Servicemen: Generally Exempted (₹00/-).
The payment of the fee is only possible online using net banking, credit card, or debit card.
The Physical Test: Your First Stage
This is a qualifying step, i.e., you must pass this phase in order to proceed to the next phase; however, the marks achieved at this phase are usually not of much significance towards the final merit list (however, there may be special regulations regarding the PSI marks; in any case, always verify with the notification). Two of them consist of the Physical Measurement Test (PMT) and the Physical Efficiency Test (PET).
1. Physical Standard Test (PST / PMT)
You should not fall short of the minimum stipulations of the GPRB.
| Category | Male Candidates | Female Candidates |
| Height (General/OBC/EWS) | 165 cm (Minimum) | 155 cm (Minimum) |
| Height (Scheduled Tribe of Gujarat Origin) | 162 cm (Minimum) | 150 cm (Minimum) |
| Chest (Male Only, All Categories) | 79 cm (Unexpanded) / 84 cm (Expanded) | N/A |
| Weight (Minimum) | 50 kg | 40 kg |
2. Physical Efficiency Test (PET)
It is a running test, in which the candidates run a specific distance within a prescribed time limit. Endurance and speed are central in this case!
| Candidate Type | Race Distance | Maximum Time Allowed |
| Male Candidates | 5,000 meters (5 km) | 25 minutes |
| Female Candidates | 1,600 meters (1.6 km) | 9 minutes 30 seconds |
| Ex-Servicemen | 2,400 meters (2.4 km) | 12 minutes 30 seconds |
Written Exam Pattern (Lokrakshak)
Those candidates who pass the physical tests will receive an invitation to the Objective Multiple Choice Question (MCQ) Test. It is this written examination that determines your ultimate merit ranking.
| Particulars | Details |
| Total Marks | 200 Marks (Likely based on previous trends) |
| Total Questions | 200 Questions (Likely) |
| Time Duration | 3 Hours (180 minutes) |
| Question Type | Objective (MCQ) |
| Negative Marking | 0.25 Marks deducted for every wrong answer. |
Key Subjects for Lokrakshak/Constable Exam
The test is wide with general awareness, mental sharpness, and general knowledge of the law and the state construction. You should concentrate on such areas as:
- Reasoning and Mental Ability: Logical thinking, data interpretation, puzzles, series, and Coding-Decoding.
- Quantitative Aptitude/Maths: Percentage, Simplification, Profit and Loss, Ratio, Time and Distance.
- The Constitution of India: Directive Principles, Fundamental Rights, Parliamentary System, and the Judicial Branch. This is a mandatory one for any individual who joins the police.
- General Knowledge and Current Affairs: Recent news coverage, nationwide news, significant government plans, and global events.
- History, Geography, and Culture of India: Learn your own state’s history.
- Science and Technology: Fundamentals and Recent Developments.
- Legal Provisions: Fundamental knowledge of IPC, CrPC, and other applicable legislations (the degree of the same may depend on the post, yet the basics are compulsory).
The structure is frequently dictated by the split between Part A and Part B (General Studies, Reasoning, Aptitude vs. Constitution and other topics). The applicants should make sure that they qualify on the minimum standard of 40% of the marks in the Objective Test, although this may vary according to the formal GPRB regulations.
