The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) has released Examination Notice No. 02/2026 ENGG., dated September 26, 2025, for the Engineering Services Examination (ESE) 2026. How to Apply for UPSC ESE 2026
- Go to the official site of the UPSC: https://www.upsc.gov.in.
- To view recent notifications, click on Examination Notices.
- Click on Examination, 2026 – Notice No. 02/2026 ENGG. – ESE 2026”.
- Log in to the online application portal using the notice link.
- Create an account and create your Universal Registration Number (URN).
- Fill the Common Application Form (CAF) with personal information.
- Fill the Examination-Specific Form for ESE 2026 and choose your engineering discipline.
- Upload required documents: photograph, signature, matriculation certificate and a valid photo ID (Aadhaar/ Voter/ PAN/ Passport/ Driving Licence).
- Pay the application fee of Rs. 200 online (if applicable) via SBI, UPI, debit/credit card or internet banking.
- Review all details carefully and submit the application (submission cannot be withdrawn or changed).
- Download or print the submitted application and fee receipt for future reference.
FAQs
The candidates should be Indian citizens, subjects of Nepal or Bhutan or citizens of those countries of Indian origin who have a permanent intention to reside in India. The age restriction is 21-30 years as of January 1, 2026 with any relaxation applicable to SC/ST, OBC, PwBD and ex-servicemen. Qualifications Educational requirements are a degree in the appropriate engineering field or an A and B of the Institution of Engineers (India).
Applications through the UPSC online portal shall be accepted until 6.00 PM on October 16, 2025. By the deadline, applicants are advised to make sure that they have uploaded all the necessary documents and paid the application fee (where applicable). The application can not be changed or withdrawn once submitted and candidates are encouraged to carefully examine all information to ensure they finalize the application.
UPSC ESE 2026 selection includes three phases: preliminary exam (objective), main examination (conventional) and personality test. The Preliminary stage comprises general studies and engineering aptitude and discipline-specific questions. The successful candidates undergo a Personality Test after passing the successfully passing Main Examination after the Prelims. A final ranking is a combination of the scores of all three stages.
