Mandatory Qualifying Test for JRF Applicants

In addition to their educational qualification, the applicants must have qualified one of the following for Junior Research Fellow posts as per Post Codes 01-07.

  • National Eligibility Test (NET) conducted by CSIR-UGC including Lectureship/Assistant Professorship.
  • Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE)
  • The national level exam is conducted by the central government departments or agencies like DST, DBT, DAE, DOS, DRDO, MoE, ICAR, ICMR, IIT, IISc, IISER, NISER etc.
  • The result or score card of the qualifying examination should be valid until the deadline for online application, which is September 30, 2026.

Age Eligibility Norms (as on September 30, 2026)

  • JRF: Maximum 28 years.
  • RA: Maximum 35 years.
  • PS-I: Maximum 35 years.

Duration and Extension of Appointment

  • Junior Research Fellow: Initially for 1 year and may be extended up to 5 years with performance and project requirements.

  • Project Scientist-I: 1 year or duration of the project, whichever is applicable.
  • Temporary: All posts are temporary and there is no right to regular appointment in DOS / ISRO centres.
