Age Eligibility Requirements
- Minimum Age: 15 years.
- Freshers Maximum Age: 22 years.
- Maximum Age: 24 years.
Age Relaxation
- SC/ST: 5 years relaxation.
- OBC: 3 years relaxation.
- PwBD: 10 years relaxation.
- PwBD + OBC: 13 years relaxation.
- PwBD + SC/ST: 15 years relaxation.
Stipend Structure
- Fresher – Class 10th: Rs. 8,200/- per month.
- Fresher – Class 12th: Rs. 9,600/- per month.
- Ex-ITI: Rs. 9,600/- per month.
- Second Year: 10% increase in prescribed minimum stipend.
- Third Year: 15% increase in prescribed minimum stipend.
Fee and Payment Details
- General/OBC/EWS: Rs. 100/-
- SC/ST, PwBD and Women: No Fee.
- Payment Mode: Online; fee is non-refundable.
Merit List Criteria for Southern Railway Apprentice Recruitment 2026
There will be no written examination for this recruitment. Southern Railway will prepare merit list based on the candidates’ academic marks. Candidates are advised to concentrate on fulfilling the educational criteria and ensure their documents are ready for the subsequent level.

Apprentice Selection Framework
- All eligible candidates who apply against this notification will be prepared in a merit list by Southern Railway.
- If Matriculation marks are given in 100-mark scale, then for candidates in Fresher category, this will be converted into 200-mark scale with at least 50% aggregate.
- The marks of Matriculation and ITI will be added together with equal weightage for Ex-ITI category candidates with converted marks in both the papers being 100 each.
- The marks secured by the candidates of the MLT category in Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics and Biology will be converted to 200 marks in Higher Secondary.
- The criterion of 50% is relaxed for SC, ST and PwBD candidates for Matriculation.
- If the marks are tied, the senior candidate will be preferred and in the event of the two candidates having the same Date of Birth, the candidate who passed Matriculation earlier will be preferred.
- The selected candidates will be appointed as Government Jobs in Tamil Nadu to the Unit of their choice subject to availability of vacancies and administrative requirement.
Reservation for Persons with Benchmark Disabilities (PwBD)
- 4% reservation is given across five categories of Benchmark disabilities as per Government of India rules: Physical Disability, Blindness/Low Vision, Deaf/Hard of Hearing, Intellectual Disability, Multiple Disabilities.
- Reservation/relaxation benefits are only available to candidates whose level of relevant disability is not less than the 40% level of the relevant benchmark.
- The candidate who filled the application should choose the right sub-category (LD, HI, VI, MD) while applying, No change will be allowed after applying.
- A certificate of disability shall be issued in Form V, VI or VII as prescribed by a Medical Board established by the Central or State Government.
